English courses

English is a language spoken by more than 500 million people in the whole world. It is a Germanic language with a clear enough grammar structure and a very rich vocabulary that allows you build sentences easily.

Tower Bridge

Due to its historic importance and to the great number of speakers, the English has created dialects so that there are British English, American English or Australian English, etc.

What is interesting is that the degree of politeness is not expressed with the help of pronouns [vous (French), dumneavoastra (Romanian)], but by attentively choosing the words.

Underground

The English vocabulary is formed of words of Germanic origin that are shorter and form words of Latin origin but the richness of the latter in one speech can be taken as pretentiousness.

An English speaker can, for example, choose in between “to come” (word of German origin) and “to arrive” (word of Latin origin) and the meaning differs a little.

The English language has a fluid and active vocabulary and maybe that is why the most of technical terms has entered in other languages too.

Phone Booth

The most well-known dialects of the English language are British English and American English. The American English speakers are aware and understand some terms from the British English (“lorry”, “biscuit”, “chop”, “shag”) that they are never going to use them; in exchange if a British man will use words like “semi”, “noff” or “bush”, this one risks not to be understood by an American.

Did you know that, for example, the Oxford dictionary contains more than 500,000 words and that there are approximately the same number of words that are not contained in this dictionary?

Did you know that English is, at the same time, the language in which more than 80% of the information on the internet is circulating?
