French is a Romanic language close to Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Provencal, Romanian, and Catalan but it has a number of different characteristics different from the language family where it comes from.
French is spoken by approximately 75 million people. It is the official language in France, Haiti and Luxemburg and the second language in Canada, Belgian or Switzerland. It is also one of the six official languages of European Union.
The French pronunciation differs a lot from the writing in French.
At the same time, unlike English, there are important differences between the polite "vous" and the less formal "tu".
Inflection, declension and conjugation represent important characteristics in the language exactly like in Romanian.
